sweeping across America!

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood Confirmed Speaker

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is a big supporter of high speed rail, having recently visited leading high speed rail systems around the world.  Convinced of the great value high speed rail will deliver for America, Secretary LaHood works tirelessly to promote and advance the new high speed rail program across the country in an effort to create American jobs, revitalize the manufacturing sector, and stimulate the overall economy of the United States.

In nominating LaHood, President-elect Obama said, "Few understand our infrastructure challenge better than the outstanding public servant that I'm asking to lead the Department of Transportation."

Secretary LaHood's primary goals in implementing President Obama's priorities for transportation include safety across all modes, restoring economic health and creating jobs, sustainability - shaping the economy of the coming decades by building new transportation infrastructure, and assuring that transportation policies focus on people who use the transportation system and their communities.

As Secretary of Transportation, LaHood leads an agency with more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion budget that oversees air, maritime and surface transportation missions.  LaHood is one of two Republican members of the Obama Cabinet.  Check out Secretary LaHood's
transportation blog.

In her capacity as Deputy Administrator, Ms. Rae is playing a leading role in the FRA's efforts to successfully implement the President's historic commitment to advance the development of high-speed rail and implement the Administration's public policy directive to improve intercity passenger rail for users and communities across the US.

Conference Highlights

Learn about the amazing high speed rail system Spain is building all across their country, and how they are doing it more economically than others

Hear about the largest high speed rail project in the history of the world - China - and how they are building it in a handful of years with 42 new lines underway all at the same time!

Get a glimpse of the enormous rail capacity that already exists in the northeastern region of the US, and how it can scale up to integrate with the new high speed rail system.

Learn how France changed their nation by building high speed rail at a time when rail ridership was declining.  The new HSR systems generated huge ridership all across the nation.

See how the New York region is building consensus across the entire region in support of a super-regional high speed rail network - one that could end up the busiest in north America.  Hear about efforts to build HSR radiating out from New York City to Albany, Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington DC.

Listen to the story of how the grassroots movement of students in California helped get out the vote in favor of HSR, to make it happen, and how a similar program can be implemented in the Northeast region.

Hear about all this and much more at High Speed Rail 2010 in New York City!

TIME on USHSR

"More than 300 business types showed up at its shindig at the Orlando Hilton, where they saw cool models of German, Spanish, South Korean and Japanese bullet trains and a cool video of a French train traveling a record 357 m.p.h.  When I asked a lobbyist I recognized what he was doing there, he grinned and rubbed his thumb against two fingers."
