Hear from Margaret Cederoth, Director of Planning and Sustainability at California High Speed Rail Authority. Margaret is an urban planner with over two decades of experience working in the areas of transportation and sustainability planning, land use, and international planning. She was appointed by Governor Newsom in 2019 to her position at the state rail authority where she oversees station planning.
Ms. Cederoth’s expertise includes sustainability strategies for transportation infrastructure projects as well as international urban development throughout North Africa and the Middle East. Ms. Cederoth’s project management experience includes managing a diverse team of experts for the Jordan Valley masterplan, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Chicago's Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Guidelines, Anacostia Waterfront Transportation Infrastructure Master Plan, and the Lower Georgia Avenue Streetscape Project.
The state's full high speed rail system buildout has designated 25 high speed rail stations, most of which will be newly built from the ground up, with others being retrofitted and expanded to accommodate high speed trains.
Hear from Jacqui Kitchen, Assistant City Manager at the City of Bakersfield. Bakersfield is one of the first cities to get high speed rail in America, with a new station underway. Hear about the city's role and activities to maximize and leverage the great value of a new high speed rail station coming to town, and planning for transit oriented development. (Bakersfield is a 150-square mile metropolis of nearly 400,000 residents in the Central Valley).
The City Manager’s Office is responsible for the daily operations of eleven full-service Departments and four special divisions; and administration of an annual budget of $610,960,000. Jacqui is a graduate of California State University Bakersfield with a Bachelor’s Degree in History (2006) and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (2014).
Hear from Randy Volenec, lead architect of the Transbay Salesforce Transit Center in downtown San Francisco. Randy is Associate Principal at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, and will discuss Transbay station design, and the process of building a massive new station in the middle of a major downtown. Randy joined Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in 2003. He has been a senior project manager for some of the firm’s most complex projects including major commissions for transportation and the firm’s largest performing arts center.
He has also worked on academic and institutional projects. He was the senior project manager for the Salesforce Transit Center, a multi-modal transportation hub in San Francisco that includes a 5.4-acre rooftop park. He also managed the new Louis Armstrong International Airport project in New Orleans and Parcel F, a residential tower that will be directly connected to Salesforce Transit Center.
